Orchestra performs spring concert
MILLIGAN COLLEGE, TN (April 7, 2005) — The Milligan College
Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Kellie Dubel Brown, will present its
spring concert on Friday, Apr. 15, at 7:30 p.m., in Seeger Memorial Chapel
located on the Milligan College campus.
The concert will feature works by Copland, Rutter, Anderson and Dello Joio.
The program will also include a special tribute to film music.
Dr. Brown has been a member
of the Milligan College music faculty since 1998. She serves as chair of
the music department,
director of the strings program and the Milligan College Orchestra. She is
also a frequent performer throughout East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia
and is the founder and principal violinist of the Appalachian String
Quartet.
The Milligan College Orchestra was founded in
1999 as an expansion of the string program at Milligan. The orchestra
provides an excellent ensemble experience for Milligan students and has
broadened into the community to include students from East Tennessee State
University and area high schools, as well as Milligan alumni and members
from the community.
The orchestra performs throughout East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia and
collaborates frequently with area ensembles, including the Johnson City
Civic Chorale, the Johnson City Symphony Orchestra and the East Tennessee
Children’s Choir.
