Student Account

Payment Policy
Tuition, fees and all other costs for the semester are due and payable on the day of registration each semester. Tuition, fees and all other costs for summer school and intersession are due and payable on the statement due date.

If you have accepted a financial aid award, you must pay the difference between the total cost for the semester and the financial aid (excluding work study). Only students who have settled their accounts for the current semester will be permitted to pre-register for a subsequent term, including summer school and intersession.

A semester grade report, transcript, and/or diploma will not be issued to a student whose account is not settled by the end of a semester or term. In addition, a transcript will not be issued to individuals in default on a Federal Perkins Loan.

AMS Tuition Pay Plan
Milligan College provides an interest-free tuition payment plan for our undergraduate, graduate and Adult Degree Completion Program (ADCP) students. These plans allow you to spread your tuition costs over several months if you cannot afford to pay tuition in a lump sum or to finance the difference in costs and financial aid. This plan can be used in conjunction with a Federal PLUS Loan and/or Alternative Loan to assist students and families in managing their educational debt. The payment plan enrollment fee for undergraduate students is $65 for the academic year, and for graduate and ADCP students, it is $85 (covers length of program). Click here to enroll.

Form 1098-T, Tuition Payments Statement

Milligan College is required to provide Form 1098-T, Tuition Payments Statement, to students who were enrolled and billed for tuition during the calendar year.  Milligan College chooses to report aggregate amounts charged/billed as qualified tuition and related expenses(QTRE) on Form 1098-T.  Form 1098-T reports qualified tuition and related expenses which are defined as tuition and fees required for enrollment for courses of instruction at an eligible institution.  Qualified expenses generally do not include:  books, supplies and equipment unless fees must be paid to the institution; expenses for courses related to sports, games, or hobbies unless required for degree program; and charges and fees associated with room and board.

Qualified tuition and related expenses must be reduced by the amount of grant aid paid to the student such as Pell, FSEOG, institutional scholarships, veteran's benefits, state grants and lottery scholarships, or a tax-free distribution from an IRA.

The amount of any reimbursements or refunds of payments received, or reductions in charges, for QTRE, or any reductions to the amounts of scholarships or grants reported for a prior calendar year may affect the amount of any allowable education tax credit for the prior year and may result in an increase in tax liability for the year of the refund.

The taxpayer should refer to relevant IRS forms and publications and should not refer to the institution for explanations relating to the eligibility requirements for, and calculation of, any allowable education tax credit.  This link will take you to IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Higher Education - http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p970.pdf

Federal law requires that Milligan College obtain the social security number for each enrolled student.  You may be contacted by our office to provide this information if it is not on file.  If requested to provide this information, you may access the form at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9s.pdf.

Form 1098-T will be mailed to the permanent address of record for each student.  If a student would like this information mailed to another address, then the student must contact the Student Accounts Coordinator in writing (email accepted) by January 15.

If you have any questions regarding the information contained on Form 1098-T or you would like more detailed information regarding charges billed during calendar year and scholarships/grants reported, you may contact Milligan College Student Accounts Coordinator at 423-461-8706 or by mail at Milligan College, Attention:  Student Accounts Coordinator, P.O. Box 750, Milligan College, TN  37682.

Refund Policies

Refund in the Event of Withdrawal from the College
The College operates on an annual budget which necessitates advance planning and financial commitments to teaching staff and others whose services are essential to its operations. For this reason, no refunds are granted to those persons who are dismissed from the College for disciplinary reasons. The official date of withdrawal used to compute refunds is the date on which the student begins the official withdrawal process in the Student Development Office.

Tuition and Room
Refund Schedule
Tuition and room refunds are calculated on the following schedule:

Prior to first calendar day of the semester 100%
During first five calendar days of the semester 90%
During the sixth through the fourteenth calendar days of the semester 75%
During the fifteenth through the thirtieth calendar days of the semester 50%
No refunds after the thirtieth calendar day of the semester or for unofficial withdrawals 0%

An exception is made for illness, in which case the 50% refund period is extended to the ninth week. Illness must be certified by a physician’s written statement.

Board Refund Schedule
In all cases, a student is charged the pro rata share of board based on the number of calendar days enrolled.

Other Fees Refund Schedule
Unless a student withdraws during the first five calendar days of the semester, all other fees are not refundable.

Institutional Scholarship
Proration Schedule
Institutional scholarships are those scholarships granted by Milligan College, calculated on the following schedule:

Prior to first calendar day of the semester 0%
During first five calendar days of the semester 10%
During the sixth through the fourteenth calendar days of the semester 25%
During the fifteenth through the thirtieth calendar days of the semester 75%
No refunds after the thirtieth calendar day of the semester or for unofficial withdrawals 100%

Refund in the Event of Withdrawal from Class
The schedule of refunds for withdrawal from a class is different from above. Since the College charges the same tuition for 12-18 hours, there is no refund for withdrawing from a class if the total hours, before and after withdrawal, is within the 12-18 range. If the new total hours are fewer than the original total, the following schedule will apply:

Prior to first calendar day of the semester 100%
During first five calendar days of the semester 90%
During the sixth through the fourteenth calendar days of the semester 75%
During the fifteenth through the thirtieth calendar days of the semester 50%
No refunds after the thirtieth calendar day of the semester or for unofficial withdrawals 0%

Return of Title IV Funds (Federal Financial Aid)
In addition to the overall institutional refund policy requirements, the College is required to follow the regulations mandated by the Department of Education pursuant to the Higher Education Amendments for any student who receives Title IV Federal Aid. The Return of Title IV Fund calculations may result from the student withdrawing, dropping out, being expelled from the institution, or failing to complete the program on or after the student’s first day of class for the period of enrollment for which the student was charged. Further explanation of the Return of the Title IV Funds is included in the Milligan College Catalog. Examples of the Return of Title IV Fund calculations are available in Student Financial Services.

Refund Policy for Applied Study
Applied fees will be refunded if the student drops the class within the first five days of classes. After this time, fees will not be refunded.
